Reflections at FOUR months

WE went to see Dr Belinda today. She is the doctor who looked after you when you were born.

Your dad thought it would be a good idea to have her check you out. A second opinion of sorts. It was so clever of him because Dr B found something wrong.

The doctor here and even trusty Nurse J never spotted it.

It was nothing serious but it could have become so.

When the doctor "treated" you, I saw your face grimace in pain and immediately your helpless little face turned towards me.

Your eyes pleaded with me to make the pain go away. But I couldn't do anything and your little face crumbled.

It made me very sad.

I'm sorry baby. Poor little thing.

I gave you lots of cuddles after that and it seemed to help... because soon after you were your usual smiling self.

You have such an infectious smile. It's more a cheeky grin. Your eyes twinkle and your whole face just opens up.

You love to laugh and play with people and everyone gets taken in by your charm.

You are sunshine.

But you have stormy moments too.

You don't like people you don't know well carry you. Even your grandparents struggle to get you to let them hold you for more than a moment.

And if you don't find yourself back in my arms, you are quick to make your displeasure known.

You can get very angry if you don't get your way. If we are slow at reading or misread your cues for food or sleep for example, you can work yourself into such a state that it takes what seems like ages to calm you down.

But these are just little moments. You are a good baby. A sweet little thing who puts up with a lot from her stumbling parents.

You are a chatty little thing, often babbling for your own pleasure with chuckles, giggles, shrieks and laughs.

Your hands explore your face, your feet and the things around you. Yes, if you bang on a toy it makes a noise!

You are slowly figuring out that you are your own little person. And your daddy and I just can't wait to discover more about you everyday.
