Our CNY Party

EVERY year, sometime during the 15 days of Chinese New Year, we throw a huge do for D's work people and our friends.

About 80-100 people show up.

This year, we had a BBQ - tenderloin, chicken, prawn kebabs, stingray, squid - and a whole lamb on a spit.

For the vegetarians (oops!), there was err... corn on the cob, potato salad, pasta salad, fried rice and yee mee.

The dessert table: brownies, rocky road, iced logan fruit and jelly and nonya kuih.

The menu was a hit but Z stole the show.

And she had three outfit changes during the day!

Second Day

THERE is an "open house" party every year at my in-laws.

Z practised her collection technique before the guests arrived.

Gong Xi Gong xi!

And here's one of D, Z and me:

First Day visits

THE first day of the Year of the Golden Boar was spent "paying respects".

For her inaugural CNY, Z did quite well.

The traditional Koh CNY photo session.

After handing over oranges to Grandma and Grandpa, it was time to see Kongkie and Poppy. We were distracted by the drama of my mother being wheeled around in her study chair due to a crook foot that we forgot to take a photo there.

We visited two relatives on D's side and then had lunch at my aunt Maggie's house, where we dug into BBTong, Chicken curry and a whole load of other yummy stuff.

Z preferred to dig into her cousins' toybox instead.

Marco collected ang pows too

Lunches with the girls

LUNCH with Jo and Steve with Z in tow.

We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio over delicious salads and sandwiches from the ProjetShop Cafe.

Z kept a close eye on me making sure that I didn't drink too much, which left most of the bottle for Aunty Jo.

But there was really no need for such policing as I was far more interested in Jo's Banana Cream Caramel Pie.

Mmmmm. As this photo is testament, she was aghast that Steve and I dug into it before she even had a chance to lift her fork.

Jo had a bit of a bonding session with Z.

Gymboree

WE'VE been going to Gymboree classes.

Lots of singing, dancing and obstacle courses for Z to manoeuvre.

So how come I'm the one who's exhausted at the end of the class?

Her favourite part is at the end when all the bubbles come out.

Bubbles for Zoe...

She loves it so much that I am bringing her to classes in Singapore during our CNY break.

Reflections at NINE months

Dear Z,

I'm getting slack. It's now far more interesting doing stuff with you then writing about you.

So, just for the record.

Nine months old, my little baby, and boy have you become so much more enjoyable!

You have a cheeky little smile that never fails to crack me up. Recently, you've started doing a fake laugh. It's a bit of a cross between a snort and a cough. You do it when you hear me laugh and you don't quite get the joke.

But most of the time now, you're in on the joke and we laugh together. Hilariously.

Like today, when there was a clip in your hair. We both realised how lacking you are in that department, and we giggled as we tried to get the clip to stay on. You shook your head as if to say "It's not going to stay on Mom!" And when it did, you threw your hands up in surrender and giggled.

You are such a good baby. No complaints. However, it would be sweet if you could drop your 3/4am bottle and sleep through the night - 7am to 7pm like you are supposed to be doing. Right now, you are sleeping from 7pm - 6am (sometimes 5.30am!).

Length: 80cm
Weight: 8.6kg
* You have only put on a very paltry 100g since 5 December. That's 100g in two months. Your Dad and I were a little worried but then Nurse J popped by and she noticed immediately what a super busy baby you are. So it seems you've been burning all up all the calories you've been scoffing down. Hopefully, some of that weight management will rub off on me as I chase you around the house.

Here you are zipping about in the family room this morning:

Some stuff you've learnt over the last month:
1. Crawl!
2. Sit in various yogi poses that requires super flexibility and balance
3. Pull yourself to a standing position
4. Understand "no" but obeying it is a totaly different matter.
5. Clap to command, clap to rhythm, clap to praise yourself
6. Wave "bye bye"
7. Do "twinkle twinkle"

New tricks:
* Dance to music
* Point at things you want us to look at, like the fan
* Working out problems (like if I hide behind the couch you can work out where I am by listening to the sound of my voice)
* Walking a couple of steps holding onto a support

And now, we've got to childproof the house.

Love,
Mom
